In a freak accident, David Davis was killed when a tractor trailer crashed into his home.
The East Nashville home on Cherokee Avenue stood next to a church where Pastor Brandon Williams once preached.
Williams knew Davis and said he was a loving man.
"He loved his family. He loved his wife, loved his grandchildren. I mean, everyday you'd see him doing something with them. You'd see him out in the yard playing or something," Williams said.
Employees from Jarrett Construction told police a truck driver was loading equipment onto a tractor-trailer when it rolled away killing the 46-year-old man on his porch.
"I read the article. It said the homeowner was killed and my heart sunked," Williams said.
Family members said Davis was on the porch and was running inside to protect his wife and grandchildren in the home when the crash happened.
Police say the truck driver saw the vehicle begin to roll away, but couldn't catch up to it in time.
Davis leaves behind his wife, four children and three grandsons.
