Group Files Civil Rights Complaint Against MTA

A group of bus riders said they've been discriminated against by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and said they've filed a federal Civil Rights Complaint Form to get some results.

The complaint involves the number 10 bus route that used to stop in front of the Nashville Electric Service building.

The group Music City Riders United held a rally Friday, saying they want the accessible bus stop at Nashville Electric Service to be put back.

The group said the bus stop gave the elderly and disabled a reliable transportation option to pay their electric bills in person.

The group filed a Civil Rights Complaint Form asking the Federal Transit Administration to look into the issue after the MTA said it removed the stop in the spring of 2015.

MTA officials issued a statement on the bus stop Friday night in response saying in part:

"After engaging in a public hearing process to gather feedback from riders, few complaints were registered at the time. Since implementation, there have been few complaints. The loop was eliminated from the route, and ridership has increased along the corridor."

MTA said it's already planning for a utility bill pay center at Music City Central so people don't have to travel to NES.
