HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Snakes are coming out of hibernation to mate, which means you may catch one or two trying to slither into your home for food.

A viral video in Texas has everybody talking. 45 snakes were found under a home by Big Country Snake Removal.

"That's the environment it is in Texas, there's not a lot of under ground areas that they can actually get underneath and kind of hibernate," said Adam Warden.

Warden works for Animal Pros and responds to snake calls in Tennessee almost every day. He said the snakes in the viral video were clinging together to stay warm.

"Your gray rat snakes, also known as chicken snake, that's 99% of the time the snake we remove," Warden said.

He captured a GoPro video of a rat snake that he pulled out of a gutter at a home in Nashville.

"This time of year you have birds starting to nest, so you're going to have baby birds so that's what they're going after," Warden said. "Usually in the spring time it's mating season, so where there's one, it could be more."

It would be surprising if what happened at the Texas home happened here. "They're pretty elusive, they're going to stay more hidden," he said

Last year, Warden found a rattlesnake in a garage at a home in Dekalb County.

Warden said, "Lady stepped out in her garage, rattlesnake was laying right there at her feet."

In Tennessee, there's 34 different types of snakes, four of which are venomous. If you spot a snake, you might want to call out the professionals. You can learn more about snake issues from Animal Pros.

The eggs that snakes lay in spring usually hatch in the summer. It's easy to forget, but snakes play an important role in controlling the rodent population. It's illegal to kill or harm a snake in the state of Tennessee unless you have a special permit.
