CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — In the snow, a city crew retrieved a stolen wallet from a storm drain after it was taken from a single mom over the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon Brittany Peck thought all hope was lost when a thief selling Advanage 20x cleaning supplies was caught on camera taking her wallet. Yesterday she got a message from someone with the company who gave her the names of the thief, and his girlfriend.

"And I messaged her, and whenever she responded back, I asked her where the wallet was at, and she told me it was on Sunset Valley," Peck said.

Brittany realized the thief's girlfriend meant Sun Valley Road in her neighborhood. She canvassed the area, and spotted her wallet

Peck said, "It was very far down in the drain."

Peck called the Clarksville Street Department, and a worker went into the storm drain and grabbed her wallet with a tool.

Peck said, "I am so very thankful they came out in that kind of weather, and they helped me find my wallet because I got my life back."

Peck is thankful her ID, and social security card were there.

"I mean it had all of my personal information in there still, and the only thing that was missing was the cash, and a ring, and all of my change," Peck said.

After the ordeal, Advanage 20x said they have terminated the employee. According to their website, the company hires young men and women from poor inner-city communities to give them a chance at making a living. The CEO sent an email saying in part,

"This is one of our great shames for a business that is designed to bring social equity to people that are job poor."

Peck said, "One bad apple doesn’t ruin the bunch though, because these people are great people, it’s just the one that decided that he was going to do that. It’s not everyone in the company, it’s not a bad company at all."

Peck is thankful the community, and the company, came together to help her out.

"It really means a lot to me," Peck said.

The thief has not been arrested, but the Clarksville Police Department is actively investigating the incident.

Peck is a single mom who works two jobs. Now that she's out more than $600, she's not able to pay for her toddler's daycare, so her mom created a Go Fund Me page
