A Rutherford County K-9 has been facing a brighter future after some helping hands stepped in to save her life.
Rutherford County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Romans recently learned his K-9 partner "Ethel" had cancer, but he couldn't afford her radiation treatments.
The deputy started a gofundme page, and within two days, community members had raised more than the $5200 needed to send Ethel to a pet hospital in Atlanta for five weeks of treatment.
“After we put the video out yesterday, it blew up, and the support was just overwhelming,” said Romans.
Sadly, this wasn't the first time Deputy Romans has had to deal with hardship involving his K-9 partners.
About three years ago, his K-9 Cody, who would often play with Ethel, died suddenly from a twisted stomach.
