Holiday Hero Blood Drive Wraps Monday

The American Red Cross has asked to volunteers to donate blood this holiday season.

The Holiday Hero blood drive concludes Monday and workers are hoping you can help save a life by donating.

NewsChannel 5 is one of the sponsors for today’s event from 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., located at their headquarters on Charlotte Avenue.

This time of year is typically slow for blood donations – people are traveling, they're often sick, normally it's cold outside and people don't want to leave their houses.

However, the need for blood never goes away. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.

This blood drive began a couple weeks ago on December 12 but ends Monday. You get a free holiday t-shirt just for donating.

If you can't make it to the Charlotte location, there's also mobile blood drives at the Walmart on Brookmeade Drive in Columbia, the Patrick Rehab-Wellness Center in Fayetteville and the O'Charley's in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

To donate, make sure to bring a form of ID. For more information, click here
