Vigils Held After Planned Parenthood Shooting

Posted

Nine days after a shooter walked into a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs, Colorado and opened fire killing three people, including a University police officer, vigils were held nationwide to remember those killed.

One of those took place Sunday at the Planned Parenthood in Nashville where the vigil wrapped up shortly after 5 p.m.

Several dozen people attended and said it was important to stand strong in honor of the victims.

Several of the volunteers and staff members wrote messages of support on the sidewalks around the Planned Parenthood center off DB Todd.

They said they came to show that they can't let what they called “violent extremism” win.

"We're out here to stand in solidarity with victims of extremism and gun violence, specifically the victims of the shooting in Colorado, so we're here to stand against extremism, against violent rhetoric, which as you can see has real life consequences," said Lauren Shuler, a Planned Parenthood supporter.

They held a moment of silence for each of the three victims including the police officer that was shot and killed during the Planned Parenthood attack.

Since then, Metro police patrols have increased at the Planned Parenthood center in Music City, including on Sunday when there was a visible police presence.
