Several areas around Nashville have been looking a lot cleaner thanks to the hard work of countless volunteers.

Nashvillians were up early Saturday morning picking up trash along seven major corridors of the city.

It was all part of Mayor Megan Barry's "Fall Green and Clean,” a continuation of this year's Spring Cleanup which collected more than 33,000 pounds of litter and illegal dumping.

Volunteers said the efforts make a big difference.

"When things look nice, when they're maintained, when the look clean, it changes the attitude, and so we do our part to keep the community as clean and as nice as possible,” Jonathan Hall said. “And it's just part of our southern charm anyway, that like passing smiles, because they're contagious when other people see somebody out doing this then they want to participate."

Some other areas that benefited from the "Fall Green and Clean" pick up were Bellevue, Cane Ridge, and Murfreesboro Road.
