NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) - A man is facing kidnapping and auto-theft charges after stealing a car with a 10-year-old inside.
42-year-old Michael Wayne Cook is jailed after police say he jumped into an unlocked Dodge Stratus while at the Shell Market on Murfreesboro Pike. The mom left her daughter in the back seat of the car when she went inside to pay for gas.
A short time later, Cook pulled into another Shell Market on Fesslers Lane and left the girl, unharmed, with store clerks before driving away.
The car was tracked to Clarksville, finding it parked with no one in it on Kraft Street. Cook was found about three blocks away with the key to the vehicle in his pocket.
Police are reminding you to not leave your car unattended with keys or a key fob inside.
