NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A man charged with vehicular homicide surrendered to Metro Nashville Police Friday in connection to a deadly crash.

Leon Bell Jr., 46, was driving a Buick Park Avenue on 4th Avenue South near Lafayette Street when he reportedly ran a red light, hitting and killed 22-year-old Colin Reno, who was in a Nissan Altima.

Initial reports stated Bell Jr. told officers he was driving away from gunfire. He told investigators that gunfire on nearby Claiborne Street had caused him to duck down as he sped away from the area.

A Criminal Court judge set Bell’s bond at $50,000. He faces charges of vehicular homicide by recklessness and not having insurance related to a crash involving death.
