A deputy with the Maury County Sheriff's Office who was critically injured in a single car crash Friday morning has died from his injuries.
The deputy was identified as Jimmy Tennyson. Preliminary reports stated he was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. A Facebook post from the Maury County Sheriff's Office Saturday morning announced Tennyson had passed.
The incident was reported on Iron Bridge Road near Running Deer Drive in Columbia.
The road was shut down around 8 a.m. Friday.
Witnesses told police Tennyson took a right hand curve, went over the center line, over corrected, and spun out of control. Tennyson went down an embankment and struck several trees before his vehicle stopped.
Officials were able to extricate Tennyson. He was transported by ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A medical helicopter was unable to take off due to inclement weather according to the investigating sergeant with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
