NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro Nashville Police Officer Nick Diamond was awarded the Congressional Badge of Bravery.

Officer Diamond received the award for his attempts to rescue Officer Eric Mumaw during a water rescue in February 2017.

He along with Officer Mumaw and Officer Trent Craig tried to save a suicidal woman from the Cumberland River. They made contact with the woman at the edge of a boat ramp, but she put the car in gear and it rolled into the water.

All three men tried to get her out. Officer Diamond went back in for Mumaw, but wasn't able to save him.

Senator Marsha Blackburn and Representative Jim Cooper were part of Monday's presentation. Diamond is the first Metro officer to receive the medal.
