Nashville Musicians Association Calls For Higher Pay for Honky Tonk Musicians

Musicians that provide the soundtrack to the city's famous streets are asking for fair pay.
The Nashville Musicians Association says as Nashville continues to grow, the amount of money those Honky Tonk musicians are getting paid isn't growing.

While downtown musicians usually play for tips in clubs, the musicians association says they should be getting higher base pay.

Some club owners, who wouldn't go on camera, say some bands can make $600 or more a night, but the musicicians association says that's not always the case.

“The better you are at soliciting tips, the more money you make, which is really counterintuitive to musicians who just want to perform their craft and be paid fairly for it,” said Dave Pomeroy with the Nashville Musicians Association.

The Nashville Musicians Association says it’s difficult for bands playing downtown to ask for extra money from clubs because there are so many other bands also looking to play downtown.
