Nashville Oktoberfest kicked off in Germantown for the weekend. A large crowd of 300,000 people or more has been expected for the event, which would be bigger than it has ever been before.
"Personally I think it will be more than that because we've moved out of our previous location simply because we outgrew it," Ginger Newman said. "We've got a little bit more room. I think people will come down and invite that little bit less cramped feeling."
Road closures have been planned in the area of 4th through 7th avenues. Jefferson Street is also planned for closure. First, the westbound lanes will be closed at 9 a.m. Friday, and the eastbound lanes will be closed at 6 p.m. Friday.
It's scheduled from Thursday to Sunday. Newman suggested taking a taxi or ride share because traffic will be a problem for the event.
