NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — If you have a pet, you might be in the process of trying to figure out what to do with them if you'll be out of town for the holidays.
But you'll want to be careful about who and where you leave them. In most cases, there are no specific regulations for pet day cares and groomers in Tennessee beyond a standard business license.
The folks that run The Farm at Natchez Trace say the best thing to do to find a place for your pet is to visit the facility you're interested in.
They say for both doggie day cares and groomers, cleanliness is key, and while apps like Yelp and company website can be helpful, nothing beats seeing a place for yourself.
"Everybody's got a great website," said Cogie Clarke Smeeton with The Farm at Natchez Trace. "I mean you can make a website that doesn't reflect the reality, so i don't think it's enough."
Experts say when taking tours of places for your pet to stay, look to see if pets in the facility are quiet and settled, while you're checking the place for cleanliness.
