NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A nonprofit group in Nashville is putting together boxes of donations to send to areas impacted by the tornadoes near Chattanooga.
The Community Resource Center has been packing boxes for more than four weeks to aid those who lost their homes to either the March tornadoes or from job loss due to COVID-19.
The center had volunteers actively packing boxes five days a week to help people locally, but switched their focus to Chattanooga Monday morning.
"We went from 100s of volunteers accepting donations [and] a line down the road a mile long of people going to drop off donations. In the safer at home situation, that’s not going to be as readily available to Chattanooga,” said Tina Doniger, executive director of CRC.
The boxes contain essential items like soap, shampoo, cleaning supplies and other hygiene products, including gloves.
“Our nonprofit serves people everyday. Most of them are at-risk population. So, it’s something that we’re used to," said Doniger.
Doniger said they've created a space on their website specifically to send support to Chattanooga. The Nonprofit also needs a truck to use to deliver the supplies or someone to drive it to the disaster area.
