CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System is looking to expand by adding a new middle school to address the district's spike in enrollment.

The county saw significant growth recently and CMCSS welcomed more than double the number of students it was planning for this school year. The enrollment jumped to nearly 1,200 students, setting a record for the district.

Middle school enrollment alone rose to 104 percent capacity, with many students squeezing into mobile classrooms.

CMCSS is in negotiations with Rossview Farms, LLC to acquire property on Rossview Road near Kirkwood Road for a new middle school. If the plan goes through, the district aims to have the new school open by 2022.
