One Person Killed in Hickman County Plane Crash

BON AQUA, Tenn. – The investigation continues into a deadly plane crash in Hickman County.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of New Hope Road and Highway 100 about 16 miles east of Centerville.

Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration said an RV-6 single engine aircraft crashed en route from Shelbyville, TN to Shelby County Airport in Alabaster, AL.

The Hickman County Sheriff said the plane was "totally destroyed" after it hit trees before crashing.  He said the location of the crash created some difficulties for deputies assiting with the investigation.

"It's pretty dense woods," said Randal Ward, the Hickman County Sheriff.  "It's hard to get back up in the woods."

Only one person was on board the plane at the time of the crash.  The victim's name has not been released.

Sheriff Ward said the victim was removed from the scene around 7 p.m.  Deputies secured the area around the crash and will monitor it until officials with the FAA arrive.

Authorities with the FAA are expected to arrive Thursday morning to continue the investigation.  The cause of the crash also remains under investigation.
