NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A local pest control company said they’ve been busy because people who are staying home are noticing more pests including brown recluse spiders.

“And they just don’t want to deal with it,” Damien Alexia said, “So as the bugs start to increase, they start hunting more, looking for pests to eat from your home.”

At All Phase Pest Solutions, Alexia said he had 15 appointments on Wednesday including a brown recluse spider infestation. “This week and last week have been some of the busiest times that I’ve had in years really.”

If you are at home and you spot a spider, he said first you need to get a handle of how big the problem is, “I think putting sticky pads out first will be able to kind of see how many you’re having, put them in the corners, put them in the closets and then monitor about 5 days later.”

Then, if there’s an abundance call the pest control company. For some people, a venomous spider bite is bad news.

“It’s not a huge percentage of the population that will have severe reactions,” Alexia said. “Some people don’t have reaction at all, and some people have really extreme reactions."
