CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Clarksville is taking steps to keep your kids safe in a busy area.
The city has added a new school zone to MLK Parkway, also known as State Route 76, between Red Coat Run and Bellshire Drive.
Drivers will see lights flashing for the first time today as the new 20 mph speed zone goes into effect in front of Clarksville Christian School.
“As Clarksville Christian School has grown, it has become necessary to create a school zone to calm traffic on MLK Parkway on weekdays,” Mayor Joe Pitts said. “I urge everyone who travels this roadway to pay attention to these changes, slow down at the designated times and do their part to make it safer to enter and leave the school area.”
The lower speed limit will impact both sides of the divided highway from 7:30 to 8:30 each morning and 2:30 to 3:30 each afternoon.
The posted speed limit at other times of the day is 50 mph. Drivers should expect to see more police officers in the area.
