Republicans Hold Annual Statesman's Dinner

A "who's who" in Tennessee politics packed the Grand Ballroom at the Music City Center Friday night for the annual Republican Statesman's Dinner.

Among the speakers were both Tennessee Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker. The focus of the dinner was to raise money, and support Republican candidates throughout the state.

Organizers honored the late Senator Fred Thompson, who died last November.

However, the big topic on everyone's mind was the race for the White House and their party's presumptive nominee Donald Trump.

Governor Haslam said that before he endorses Trump, he had some questions.

“First of all, this is a very winnable race for our party - that we need to win. I've said before I have a few questions I'd love to talk about with Donald Trump.  I think there's gonna be a group of governors meet with him in the next couple weeks, and I look forward to having those conversations,” he said.

About 1,200 people attended the event with South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley serving as keynote speaker.
