Dozens of Hurricane Florence evacuees landed Friday in Smyrna.
The Smyrna airport housed about 30 aircraft from the New River Marine Base in Jacksonville, North Carolina until the storm passed.
It’s part of an agreement called the "HurreVac " that's been in effect for more than 20 years, although few people know about it.
The Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport Authority Executive Director, John Black says they "feel a patriotic duty" to protect our armed forces when they risk their lives to protect us every day.
The helicopters on-site included the Cobra, Huey's and the Super Stallion.
