NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Strong to severe storms will be possible Sunday afternoon and into Sunday night, prompting a Storm 5 Alert.
While the morning will be dry, a cold front approaching the area will bring thunderstorms, some of which could reach severe limits with damaging wind and hail as the main threat.
The Storm 5 Alert will be in effect from 2 p.m. Sunday through 3 a.m. Monday.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued by the National Weather Service for the highlighted counties below. This will be in effect until 6 p.m.
A Tornado Warning was issued briefly for Decatur County and several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings as the line of storms moved into the region.
All of Southern Kentucky and the majority of Middle Tennessee are under a slight risk, which is level two out of five, for thunderstorms. It is possible the risk could be upgraded.
The storms downed many trees and caused nearly 130,000 power outages for Nashville Electric Service customers.
