Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said Broughton was not the intended target. White was allegedly aiming for his girlfriend, 20-year-old Jacquietta Easley, who was also in the vehicle, and was uninjured.
There was no previous history of domestic violence between Easley and White, but he does have previous convictions for drug possession and evading arrest.
He was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of attempted criminal homicide.
