Tennessee unemployment rate remains low in November

NASVHILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — New unemployment numbers for Tennessee show low unemployment numbers continuing to remain steady.

The overall seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the state is at 3.3%, lower than the national average of 3.5%. While the national unemployment rate dropped in November, Tennessee's remained steady overall.

The Nashville-Murfreesboro area continues to have the lowest unemployment in the state, at 2.4% Williamson County's has the lowest of any county, at 2.2%.

That's not the story in the Clarksville area, though. Of the 10 Metropolitian Statistical Areas (MSA) tracked in Tennesseee, the Clarksville area has the second-highest unemployment rate in the state at 3.7%, just behind the Memphis region.

Overall, there are 91 counties in Tennessee with unemployment under 5%, and only four counties with rates higher that 5%.

“It’s very encouraging to have so many counties with unemployment rates below 5 percent during November,” Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Jeff McCord said.. “As we moved closer to the busy holiday season, more Tennesseans were taking home paychecks, which is the ultimate goal.”
