Driver in crash that killed Brentwood officer charged with vehicular homicide

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Tennessee Highway Patrol has filed charges in the crash that led to Brentwood Police officer Destin Legieza's death last week.

Officials served a warrant for vehicular homicide by intoxication to Ashley Kroese, the other driver involved in the June 18 incident on Franklin Road.

THP says an investigation showed Kroese, 24, was traveling north in the southbound lane, then crashed head-on into Legieza's vehicle.

Both were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where Legieza died. He is the first Brentwood officer to die in the line of duty.

Kroese suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. she has since been released from the hospital and officials said she was taken to the Williamson County Sheriff's Office Criminal Justice Center to wait for her court appearance.
