NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Storm 5 Alert will go into effect on Friday as the remnants of Hurricane Laura could bring several inches of rain and a few strong storms to Middle Tennessee.

Update as of Thursday morning:

Laura made landfall overnight Thursday as a powerful category 4 hurricane with winds near 150 mph. Catastrophic wind damage and storm surge were expected along the central and western Louisiana coast.

Laura will rapidly weaken, but is still expected to bring very windy conditions northward as it tracks through Arkansas.

For Middle Tennessee, the Storm Prediction Center has upgraded our severe weather threat to a two out of five risk for severe weather on Friday.

Wind and heavy rain will be the main threats, but quick, spin-up tornadoes are possible Friday afternoon into early Saturday morning. Stay with NewsChannel 5 for the latest updates.
