A man accused of stealing a pickup truck from an Army veteran was arrested after authorities said he led officers on a chase.
Daniel Scott Harris, 31, was caught in the woods near Veterans Parkway in Mufreesboro on Monday morning.
It started at the Epps Mill Market on Epps Mill Road in Rutherford County when Nicholas Caudle stepped out of his truck for a moment.
He was on his way to kayak down the Duck River with his boss and friends.
"I walked inside the store to grab a drink when I heard 'hey, hey, hey somebody jumped in your truck!'," Caudle recalled.
Caudle's pistol and kayak were in the truck.
"Not a fun Memorial Day. Not as fun as it was supposed to be," Caudle told NewsChannel 5.
An hour later, police spotted the stolen truck about 12 miles north and tried to pull Harris over.
Harris allegedly refused to stop and continued to lead police on a chase when he crossed a curb and blew a tire.
"The front tire is messed up and the back tire is blown out and the rim looks bent completely," Caudle said.
Police said he ran into the woods by Salem Pike but roughly 30 minutes later, he was caught without incident thanks to a Bloodhound.
"I'm very irritated," Caudle added. "But I'm glad no one was hurt."
Harris was held at the Rutherford County Jail on charges of felony theft over $1,000, felony evading arrest, felon in possession of a firearm and driving on a suspended license.
