LEBANON, Tenn. (WTVF) — Senior year in high school is supposed to be an exciting time for teenagers. But COVID-19 has canceled several events, including prom.

"It sucks because graduation is what you look forward to," said 18-year-old Katelyn Allen, "Prom and all the good stuff that sends you off is getting canceled and it's sad we get to miss out on it and don’t get experience what everyone else did."

Her mom, Brittany Chastain, says it's been tough watching her daughter be devastated because she’s missing out on all these moments. Chastain wanted to do something special for her and other seniors feeling the same way.

Chastain created the facebook page “WCS adopted a senior.” Parents can post about their Wilson county senior and other parents can choose to “adopt them.”

"Once paired you can send them any tips on their way to becoming an adult, a gift basket, treat them to lunch or dinner, anything to make them feel special is the main point," said Chastain.

Already, a couple hundred seniors have been adopted and the group continues to grow. Chastain hopes to get every Wilson county senior adopted.
