NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Metro police officer was sliced in the eye and hand while trying to arrest a man.

He suffered the lacerations on Friday at the Family Dollar on Shelby Avenue in East Nashville.

Police had been looking for Joseph Street Jr., 30. He had seven outstanding warrants.

Officers followed Street into the store after they spotted him getting out of his Dodge Avenger.

When officers confronted the suspect, he ran toward the back of the store. According to police, an officer grabbed Street's coat and tried to take him into custody, but the suspect grabbed a wire food rack and swung it at the officer. The officer lost his grip on Street, but another officer deployed his taser before he could get away.

Street is now facing 23 charges, including injuring an officer which carries a $25,000 bond.
