The mayor of Algood resigned from his position amid controversy between him and the city council.

Mayor Scott Bilbrey turned in his resignation letter Friday, saying "Serving as your mayor has been one of the great honors of my life."

However, the decision clearly did not come easily as the first sentence of the letter stated, "The abuse that my family and I have endured for the past three years has affected my overall health."

Bilbrey said in the letterthat he was served a petition on Monday  to appear before the Chancery Court in Cookeville, TN on November 13, 2017 requesting the judge to compel me to attend all city council meetings, and a request to the Court to change the City Charter giving them complete power and authority to run the city.
