NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Members of the House Democratic Caucus have called for State Representative David Byrd to respond to allegation of sexual assault.

Three women came forward last year, saying Byrd assaulted them when he was their high school basketball coach 30 years ago.

He has refused to comment on the matter, however he was secretly recorded by one of the women saying, “I have been so sorry for that…I’ve lived with that and you don’t know how hard it has been for me.”

The Caucus is calling on Representative Byrd to explain exactly what happened and bring the matter to a close.

"This matter doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon and until he tells his side of the story there is no way to resolve this issue and determine if he should be chairing an important House subcommittee," the caucus said in a press release.

Byrd is the Chairman of the House Education Administration Subcommittee. Speaker Glen Casada was recently criticized for naming Byrd as the chairman amid news of the allegations.
