NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Monday, October 5 is the last day to register to vote for the November General Election in Tennessee and Kentucky.

For Nashville residents, the Davidson County election office will extend its hours on Monday until 7 p.m. Tennesseans have until 11:59 p.m. to register to vote and Kentuckians have until 4 p.m.

Election administrator Jeff Roberts in Davidson County says they had 5,000 registration cards turned in this past weekend and they expect the same from Monday alone.

Every card is then entered in the system by hand, which means there’s still a delay for when your voter information is registered with the state. So for those trying to verify their registration having completed a paper application, you may not see it on the state site just yet.

That doesn’t mean you’re not registered. You can call your county election office and verify that way.

”We have staff in there today doing data entry and putting that information in the computer system. We send that information to the state, so it’s not like you buying something on Amazon and you immediately get a reply back,” Roberts said.

Roberts says one thing to remember is that you do not need to have your blue voter registration card with you when you vote. All you need is either a Tennessee ID or some form of federal ID on election day.

Zac Rundin moved to Nashville from California and wasn't sure if he could vote without a Tennessee ID. We caught up with Zac, having just registered and he tells us the most time consuming part of the process was finding the documents needed to prove his new residence.

“It seemed like Tennessee organizations did a good job of getting everyone to register, but I will say trying to go through all the hoops left me to the last minute getting my stuff together,” Rundin said.

In Tennessee, first-time voters will be allowed to vote absentee so long as they have one of the 14 qualifying reasons to vote by mail. Click here to see if you are eligible to vote absentee in Tennessee.

In Kentucky, all voters who are concerned about contracting COVID-19 can vote by mail this year. Kentucky absentee ballots must be postmarked by November 3 and received by November 6.
