NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — More than four months after the shooting death of 18-year-old Dontae Drew occurred, police have apprehended the man suspected of killing him.

Drew was shot on December 6 on Dickerson Pike near Briley Parkway. On Monday, Demontez Johnson, 19, was arrested in Fayetteville.

According to police, their investigation revealed that Drew and two friend met with two men, one alleged to be Johnson, the night the incident occurred.

Drew and his friends were meeting the men to purchase marijuana using fake money.

Once the marijuana was in their possession, Drew and his friends quickly drove away.

The sellers, driving a pickup truck, caught up with Drew and his friends and began firing at the Nissan Maxima they were driving.

Drew, the driver, was hit and died.

The original murder warrant naming Johnson was released on December 18.

Johnson is now being held in the Metro Nashville Jail on a $1 million bond.
