One man was killed after being shot outside an East Nashville club. This was the second fatal shooting at the club in seven months.

The shooting happened around 12:45 a.m. Sunday outside the Cloud IX Hookah Bar on Gallatin Pike.

Security guards had just escorted someone from the club when there was an altercation in the parking lot and shots were reportedly exchanged.

One man, identified as 30-year-old Jason McClain, was hit and passed away at the scene. Several family members said McClain was a father of three.

Police said the security guards who fired have claimed they shot in self defense. They said they were involved in a verbal argument inside the hookah bar with McClain when he was asked to leave. They fired outside when he was alleged to have shot at them. That self defense claim was under investigation.

The security guards have been identified as 21-year-old Brian Barham, Jr., 24-year-old Brandon Transou, 28-year-old Bryce Hardy, and 28-year-old Tarryn Williams.

Another fatal shooting happened in May at the same club. Nigel Phill was killed in the early morning hours of May 14 in the club's crowded parking lot. Officers were still searching for a suspect. Some East Nashville residents raised security concerns after the shooting.

No charges have been filed in this case as the investigation remained ongoing.
