In Depth:
Due to the extreme heat index values, everyone across Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky is under either a Heat Advisory or an Extreme Heat Warning.
A Heat Advisory is issued when the heat index is expected to exceed 105° for several hours. An Extreme Heat Warning is issued when the heat index is expected to reach or exceed 110°. These advisories and warnings remain in effect through Friday evening.

Thursday afternoon, we anticipate a few pop-up showers and thunderstorms. Some of these could produce gusty winds & heavy downpours, but the overall severe weather threat is low.

As we get ready to celebrate Independence Day, the heat and humidity will continue to stick around. However, at this time, we're expecting heat index values to remain below Extreme Heat Warning criteria. Even so, it will still feel like the triple digits.
