The rain is here, and it’s going to stick around over the next few days. I realize this isn’t ideal for outdoor plans, but the liquid sunshine is truly needed! Thankfully, the rain will not be a complete all-day washout, and we will have several dry hours, especially today for locations to the northwest.

Severe weather is not expected, but a few rumbles of thunder can’t be ruled out, especially on Friday, as this system lifts northward as a warm front.

I know when you glance at the 7-day forecast and see all the rain chances, it can look a little daunting. But don’t fret ... there will still be several dry hours for outdoor activities and fun.

The reality is that this rain is badly needed. We have major rainfall deficits across Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky, and just about everyone is dealing with some level of drought.
To put it into perspective for 2026:
• Nashville is 9.17" below normal rainfall for the year
• Clarksville is 11.80" below normal rainfall for the year
• Crossville is 8.85" below normal rainfall for the year

This system will not completely erase the drought, but it will definitely help. The good news is that it will be slow to move out, allowing the rainfall to soak into the soil much better than a quick one-day event would.
