Cole Johnson joined NewsChannel 5 in February 2021 as a multimedia journalist for the morning team.
Cole moved to Nashville from the Waco, Texas area where he was a reporter and fill-in anchor for the NBC affiliate KCEN. While there, he created and hosted a weekly social media segment, covered breaking news, cold cases, feature stories and politics.
Before Texas, Cole reported for the CBS affiliate KCCI in Des Moines, Iowa.
Originally from the Hawkeye State, he still considers Iowa home. He grew up in Story City, Iowa and attended the University of Iowa. In school, he double majored in Journalism and Political Science. Cole represented the university as the mascot, Herky, for a majority of his college career.
In his free time, you’ll find Cole streaming a new TV series, tracking down the best spots to eat in town or trying to find some live music.
Cole is thrilled to be a part of the NewsChannel 5 team and help wake up the area with what they need to know before heading out the door.
