Multimedia Journalist

Claire Kopsky joined the NewsChannel 5 team in July 2021 as a multimedia journalist.

In 2022, Claire was nominated for an Emmy award for her coverage of the unhoused community in downtown Nashville.

She also received the Arc Tennessee Statewide Public Awareness Award awarded to one Tennessee journalist for outstanding efforts that create better public understanding of people with disabilities. Claire was nominated for a story that helped pass a Tennessee law requiring adult-size changing tables in state welcome centers, rest stops, and state parks. The law also installed a $1 million grant for businesses and local municipalities to apply for the necessary bathroom renovations.

Claire joined NC5 from just a few hours south of where she reported for several years in Lexington, Kentucky, at the NBC affiliate (WLEX) where she was a multimedia journalist and anchor. During her time in the Bluegrass State, Claire was honored as an Emmy Award-winning reporter for her work at the Kentucky Derby. She covered politics through elections and the coronavirus shutdown, flooding that devastated many Kentucky towns, and she exposed corrupt local education leaders. She also broke investigations that were credited with altering the course of local elections.

Previously, Claire was a multimedia journalist and anchor in the heart of the Show-Me State at the NBC affiliate (KOMU) in Columbia, Missouri. There, she covered a variety of stories including the indictment of the Governor, sexual assault in the loosely-regulated massage therapy industry and free speech battles.

Claire graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism and earned a degree in Convergence Journalism with an emphasis in Television Reporting, and a minor in Business.

Her experience extends beyond television. Claire has worked in digital, print, broadcast and multimedia newsrooms. She reported in Beijing, China, at the China Open Tennis Tournament, for a print and digital magazine in London, United Kingdom, and worked for a digital start up in New York City.

Claire enjoys volunteering in her free time for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), an organization that helps children who are abused and/or neglected find their voice in the courtroom against their abusers.

When not volunteering, Claire enjoys time spent outdoors exploring trails, catching up with friends and family over charcuterie, photography, and singing. Claire is a foodie to the core and is always looking for new restaurants to try! You’ll find her cheering on her favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals, rallying around the Mizzou Tigers, and chipping balls on the nearest green. She is originally from St. Louis, Missouri, and is thrilled to be in Music City telling stories about the spirited people of Tennessee!

Claire believes everyone has a story to share and would love to hear from you! If you’d like to connect or have a tip, let Claire know as she would be delighted to sit down and speak with you! Feel free to reach out to her on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or via email!
